WORST marketing plan yet….
“We can officially reveal in this world exclusive that SEGA SAMMY’s webring which includes SEGA Bingo, SEGA Sports, SEGA Drive, SEGA Casino, SEGA Poker and PlaySEGA shall in the near future be available for use in the living room via a new yet to be named streaming device based on the company’s RINGWIDE hardware.”
congrats, a flash player for $150. I can get crysis into my TV streamed by getting onlive for free and paying a small subscription afterwards.
FAIL.

SEGASammy’s NEW hardware plan for 2010:
spring 2010, begin test marketing a NEW streaming device based off of RINGWIDE hardware sells with a wireless Genesis 6 button controller for $150. Either called “Wide Ring” or “Play Ring”.
Summer 2010, Full Ring series arcade lineup ready.
Fall 2010/Early 2011. Place the finishing touches on the HD console RING EDGE/RING SMASH hopefully a holiday season launch in 2010 for $250.

SEGASammy has been working on the Ring Edge console since 2008. But have now come up with a backup plan. They need an excuse to get back into the console market without driving skepticism so they have decided to quickly design a On-live like device out of Ringwide hardware first and are planning to have it ready by Spring 2010. Henceforth more details on RingEdge will wait until next year and the console may now launch much later in 2010 or in 2011.
